This week in the Bloomin’ Bliss studio, something unusual happened. Our dehumidifier has been running for days without needing to be emptied. That is always the sign that winter has officially arrived. Dry air, dark nights and that tight feeling in the skin are all part of the season here in Alberta. When the humidity drops, our skin and hair lose moisture fast, so it is important to adjust your routine. Here are some simple and natural ways to keep your skin moisturized during winter.
1. Use a Humidifier
A humidifier is a true winter essential for dry skin. When I lived in Ontario, I hardly thought about humidity levels. After moving to Alberta, I learned quickly that the air here can feel extremely dry. Running a humidifier at night adds moisture back into the air, which helps your skin stay hydrated while you sleep. It is one of the easiest ways to create a winter friendly skincare environment.
2. Try Raw Honey for Moisture
Raw honey is a natural humectant, which means it draws water into the skin. It is also full of vitamins and antioxidants that support a healthy skin barrier. After cleansing or after a warm bath, apply one to two teaspoons of honey to your face as a simple moisturizing mask. Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse and follow with a natural oil such as jojoba. You can also add a teaspoon of honey to your bath to soften the water and leave your skin silky. Cleopatra was famous for her honey baths for a reason.
3. Keep Baths and Showers Warm Instead of Hot
Warm water is much kinder to dry winter skin. Hot water strips away the natural oils that protect the skin barrier, which can leave you feeling tight and itchy. Keeping your bath or shower at a warm, comfortable temperature helps your skin maintain moisture during the winter months.
4. Choose Moisturizing Bath Products
A nourishing bath is one of the best ways to treat dry skin in winter. All of our Bloomin’ Bliss bath bomb discs contain mango butter, which is naturally hydrating. For very dry, sensitive or eczema prone skin, our Vanilla Cocoa Dream bath bomb is the most moisturizing option. It is made with rich cocoa butter, colloidal oatmeal and coconut milk powder that melt into the water to soothe and soften the skin. If you prefer something other than vanilla, our Sleepy Blue bath bomb disc is infused with jojoba and castor oil for deep hydration.
5. Moisturize Right After Bathing
Applying moisture while your skin is still damp helps lock hydration in. Jojoba oil and castor oil are excellent natural options and feel lightweight on the skin. Shea butter is a richer choice when you need extra protection from the winter air. Whatever you choose, apply it within a few minutes of stepping out of the bath or shower for the best results.
Winter dry skin can be frustrating, but small changes can make a big impact. With the right routine and a few natural ingredients, your skin can stay soft, hydrated and healthy all season long.
